Emergency services give a safety lesson to Banbury school pupils

The Key Stage One pupils spent last Friday meeting PCSO Rob Bliss and members of Green Watch based at Banbury Fire Station in Cope Road, and were given the chance to dress in uniform, go in a riot van and practice escaping from a smoke filled room.

Jude Barratt, deputy headteacher, said: “It is so important for children to be provided with hands on experiences to support their learning. The children have taken away key messages on how to keep themselves safe and how to conduct themselves in the case of an emergency.

“The visiting fire and police services have provided a great teaching context for our literacy sessions and have brought the children’s learning to life. This has greatly supported the progress and attainment of our children.

“They thoroughly enjoyed sharing their learning with their parents, on our ‘Come to school with your child’ morning, where parents came to our spelling punctuation and grammar lessons.”
