South Northants Council’s (SNC) cabinet was due to decide on the scheme’s future on Monday after it had suffered delays due to a lack of cooperation from all landowners.

Officers recommended the council vote in favour of withdrawing from the scheme altogether due to rising costs.

But councillors instead decided to delay a decision to allow further discussions to take place with the Environment Agency, Northamptonshire County Council and other relevant partners regarding the future of the scheme and the responsibility for ongoing maintenance.

The flood alleviation project would have seen flood defences built to protect 48 homes in the Wales Street area of the village.

SNC councillors agreed not to provide any additional funding for the scheme.
