Daventry dancer Jordan Goodenough and his Cartel dance crew miss out on Britain’s Got Talent live final

The 18-year-old and his fellow dancers from Northamptonshire produced a polished performance in front of a London studio audience and BGT judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

But it was not enough to send them through to the final as opera singer Lucy Kay went through on the public vote alongside French dance trio Yanis Marshall, Arnaud and Mehdi, who also have the public to thank for progressing after the judges failed to split them from third-placed Cartel.

With David Walliams and Alesha Dixon both backing Yanis, Arnaud and Mehdi it looked over for Cartel, but they were given renewed hope when support from Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell sent the final decision back to which act received the most votes from the public.

And, in a result that will surprise many fans of the show, it was Yanis, Arnaud and Mehdi that came out on top.

Earlier in the evening Cartel had produced the highlight of the night when - in an act of great showmanship - group member Jamie Mitchell, 27, criticised by Simon Cowell in the original audition for ‘sticking out like a sore thumb’, joined the performance after it had been stated that he had stepped down.

Speaking to the Daventry Express ahead of the live show Jordan said: “It’s a whole new set from us. It’s going to be a surprise for everyone on the night.

“Performing live to the nation is going to be massive. I’m definitely looking forward to it. We had a pretty relaxed day on Tuesday. My parents and family will be there in the audience. They’re really excited about it. The day of the show involves a couple of run throughs on the stage. We don’t want to burn ourselves out before the main performance in the evening, but we should be OK.

“There are some very good acts this year, and the competition is very hard.”

The grand final will be broadcast live on ITV on Saturday June 7.
