Woman is sent to prison for several thefts from Banbury shops in ‘repeat offending’ case - Court Report

Rebecca Ann Nuttall, 30, of was sentenced to prison for eight weeks for a number of thefts in Banbury. She pleaded guilty to stealing lemon disinfectant spray valued at £2.49 from Bargain Buys, Banbury on October 5.

Nuttall also pleaded guilty to stealing personal grooming items valued at £69.60 from the Esso Garage on September 9. She further pleaded guilty to stealing fragrances valued at £239 from Debenhams on September 7. Magistrates imposed the prison sentence because Nuttall has a ‘flagrant disregard’ for court orders and because of her previous record of offending. She was ordered to pay compensation of £30.

The following cases were heard at Oxford Magistrates’ Court:

Duncan Strange, 44, of Quarry Road, Chadlington pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis in Great Rollright on July 27. He was fined £240 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £54 with court costs of 775. Strange pleaded guilty to driving on Hook Norton Road, Great Rollright in a Fiat Punto with excess cannabis in his blood. He was fined a further £540 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months.

Aaron Jack Peachey, 22, of Avenue Bernard, Brackley pleaded guilty to driving a Citroen car without insurance at Spider Park, Keble Road, Bicester on September 4. He was fined £368 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months. Peachey also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis on the same day. He was fined a further £246 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £61 with costs of £85. An order was made for the drugs to be forfeited and destroyed.

Magistrates ordered that £2620 seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act from Hassama Mahmood of Mold Crescent, Banbury on October 1 should be detained for a further three months.

Matthew Lee Potter, 33, of Dover Avenue, Banbury admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order made by Oxford magistrates on May 28 by failing to attend appointments or provide a reasonable excuse. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £60.

Maciej Piotr Szczuczko, 33, of Middleton Road, Banbury was fined £40 for failing to comply with the requirement of a community order and attending a telephone appointment on March 31 and April 7 without reasonable excuse. He admitted the breach.

Bradley John Fowler, 26, of Mayweed Road, Banbury pleaded guilty to drink driving in a Vauxhall Corsa on the A361 in South Newington on May 12. Fowler had 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. He was fined £276 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 with costs of £85. Fowler was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 18 months.

Tasavar Hussain Ilyas, 43, of Red Poll Close, Banbury was fined £660 for driving on Hardwick Hill without insurance. Ilyas was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 costs of £85. He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for six months.

Krzysztof Telak, 44, of Mold Crescent, Banbury was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison for drink driving in an Audi car in Mold Crescent on August 1. He pleaded guilty. Telak also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence. He received a ten week prison sentence, to run concurrently. He pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. There was no separate penalty for this offence.

Telak was given the prison sentences because magistrates said he showed a flagrant disregard for court orders and because of his record of previous offending. He was further disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for five years. Telak was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128.

Luke Paul Laurie Gibbs, 28, of Winbourne Way, Deddington pleaded guilty to entering a house in Little Bourton with intent to steal on August 11. He was ordered to carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work, pay a victim surcharge of £95 and£85 costs. Gibbs pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis at Homebase, Banbury. There was no separate penalty.
