Witness appeal launched after Banbury restaurant burgled

A witness appeal has been launched after a Banbury restaurant was burgled over the weekend.

Adam Ahmed, the owner of the Banbury Spicy Kebabish restaurant and takeaway, has launched an appeal for witnesses to the burglary of his business during the early morning hours today (Saturday May 9).

Adam reported the burglary of his business to Thames Valley Police.

He said the burglary occurred between 2.45 and 3.35am this morning (Saturday May 9).

The burglary occurred at the restaurant and takeaway located in Broad Street Banbury.

But Adam plans to continue serving the Banbury area and communities throughout the lockdown. The business has not closed as a result of the burglary.

An undisclosed amount of cash and drinks were stolen from inside the business during the break-in.

Adam said: "We are deeply saddened by this and as a small business we have always tried to do our best for our community during this hard time.

"We will appreciate it if any witnesses could please come forward to help identify this person."

At least one person was seen on surveillance footage captured. A photo from the surveilance footage was released to the Banbury Guardian.

The restaurant and takeaway business closed temporarily due to the coronavirus outbreak.

While they were closed Adam and several of his employees voluntarily prepared and delivered more than 300 meals to key workers around the town, including NHS workers at Horton General Hospital, to the Banbury Police Station, to the Banbury Fire Station and to a care home in town. The hot fresh meals included vegetable rice with lentils and vegetable samosas.

The Banbury Spicy Kebabish has been a family owned business in the town centre since 2007.

The restaurant re-opened for business on Wednesday April 1. They are now providing a 'no contact' delivery service and takeaway.

Adam says they plan to continue operating as normal even after a burglary of the business.

The restaurant is open for takeaways on Monday - Thursday: 5-11pm and Friday - Sunday: 3pm-12am.

Customers are asked to wait outside to ensure all customers have a two metre gap between them instore.
