Who has appeared in court? Reports from court cases before lockdown

Victoria Alice Elkington, 48, of Prescott Avenue, Banbury pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer at Banbury on September 8, 2019. She was fined £40 and ordered to pay compensation of £50. She was further ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32.

The following cases were also heard at Oxford Magistrates’ Court before sittings were suspended for the lockdown:

Matthew Peter Jakes, 31, of Sussex Drive, Banbury was sent to prison for a total of 18 weeks for four counts of theft from Debenhams, Banbury and for failure to surrender to custody. The thefts took place on: December 27, 2019 where perfume valued at £688 was stolen; December 26, perfumes valued at £179; December 23, perfumes valued at £280; and October 15, perfume valued at £79. He pleaded guilty to all theft charges and to failing to surrender to custody.

Richard Bassett, 52, of Banbury Road, Chipping Warden pleaded guilty to drink driving in a Citroen Berlingo on Middleton Road, Banbury on February 21. He had 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Bassett was fined £200 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. He was disqualified from driving for 36 months. Bassett also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence, for which he was fined £200 and to driving without an MOT test certificate for which there were no separate penalties. Bassett also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a quantity of cocaine for which he was fined £66. An order was made for the forfeit and destruction of the drug.

Ryan Andrew Betts, 32,of Whimbrel Way, Banbury pleaded guilty to drink driving in a VW Beetle in Bloxham High Street on February 29. Betts was disqualified from driving for 16 months. He was fined £183 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £85.

Maciej Piotr Szczuczko, 33, of Middleton Road, Banbury was given an eight week suspended prison sentence for drink driving in a Renault Modus car in Lincoln Close, Banbury on February 28. Szczuczko pleaded guilty. He had 142 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath and the suspended sentence was given because of the seriousness of the offence. He was ordered to undergo treatment for alcohol dependency over nine months. Szczuczko was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and court costs of £85. He was also disqualified from driving for 36 months.

Jonathan Bentley, 36, of Evenlode Close, Bicester was fined £440 for failing to pay his Chiltern Railways rail fare between Bicester and Banbury on October 1, 2019. Bentley was ordered to pay £5.40 compensation, a victim surcharge of £44 and costs of £100.

Aaron Albert Fountain, 33, of Chapel Street, Bicester was fined £440 for failing to pay his Chiltern Railways rail fare between Bicester North and Banbury on September 25, 2019. He was ordered to pay £5.40 in compensation, a victim surcharge of £44 and costs of £100.

Ayla Harris, 33, of Evenlode Close, Bicester was fined £440 for failing to pay a Chiltern Railways rail fare between Bicester North and Banbury on September 26, 2019. Harris was ordered to pay £5.40 compensation, a victim surcharge of £44 and costs of £100.

Aisha Bibi, 20, of Grimsbury Square, Banbury was fined £129 for using a car without insurance in Middleton Road, Banbury and Priory Vale Road. Bibi was ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in costs. Her licence was endorsed with six points.

Michael Peter Lyon of Portway, Banbury was fined £660 for driving without insurance in Upper Astrop Road. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and court costs of £85. Lyon’s licence was endorsed with six penalty points.
