Racially aggravated verbal abuse, drugs and an offence against a police officer are among Banbury area cases heard by Oxford magistrates

Christopher Leslie Bowler, 47, of Union Street, Banbury pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting language thereby causing a person harassment, alarm or distress and the offence was racially aggravated. The court found the offence on March 9 was racially aggravated. Bowler was given a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £200 in compensation with costs of £40.

Liam Javier Quinn, 25, of Trinity Close, Banbury pleaded guilty to possession of two small pieces of cannabis in Banbury on January 4. He was fined £150. He also pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Fiesta in Lodge Close with excess cannabis in his blood. He was fined £293 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £85. He was disqualified from driving for three years.

James Doran, 53, of Corner Meadow, Farnborough Road, Banbury was fined £146 for breaking the 30mph speed limit on the Woodstock Road, Oxford in a Land Rover on April 21. His speed was 36mph. Doran was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £85. His driving record was endorsed with three penalty points.

Florin Ionescu, 34, of Saffron Close, Banbury was fined £660 for failing to provide information relating to the the identity of the driver of a Mercedes Vito van in Banbury between March 16 and April 13. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and costs of £85. Ionescu’s driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.

Robert John Meredith, 55, of Banbury Road, Bloxham was fined £100 for breaking the 30mph speed limit in Main Road, Broughton. His speed was 36mph. Meredith was ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and his driving record was endorsed with three penalty points.

Joseph James Murrell, 30, of Burrow’s Crescent, Chipping Norton was fined £100 for breaking a 50mph speed limit on the A34 at the Botley Interchange in a Vauxhall car on January 12. Murrell was ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs. His driving licence was endorsed with three points.

Saghir Younas, 40, of Warwick Road, Banbury was fined £133 for breaking the 70mph speed limit on the M40 at Bucknell, between Junction 10 and 9. His recorded speed was 96mph. Younas was ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. His driving licence was endorsed with four penalty points.

Graeme Nigel Voce, 40, of Booth Road, Banbury was fined £220 for travelling between Marylebone and Banbury on a Chiltern Railways train without paying a £42.50 fare on January 23. Voce was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32, compensation of £42.50 and costs of £400.

Alan Richard Tobin, 40, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty of assault against a woman in Banbury on August 16. He was given a six months conditional discharge and a restraining order was imposed forbidding Tobin to contact the woman or visit an address in Banbury. He was ordered to pay a £22 victim surcharge.

Jamie Ashley Pratt, 22, of Oxford Road, Banbury pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a police officer with intent to cause him to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used in an incident in Banbury on July 19. Pratt was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and to pay compensation of £50. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and costs of £35.

Ben Williams, 30, of Spring Lane, Little Bourton pleaded guilty to drink driving in a Volkswagon Transporter in Faringdon on July 19. He had 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Williams was fined £450 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £45 and court costs of £85. He was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

James Robert Kitcher, 47, of Middle Row, Chipping Norton was fined £220 with a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs for driving at 35mph in a 30mph speed limit in South Stoke on January 23.
