The alarming incident took place on Thursday, July 21, when the woman, in her 70s, pulled up on her driveway between 2.40-2.45pm.

Police believe her VW Polo had been followed in a dark-coloured Vauxhall Astra with cloned plates so are keen to get information from anyone who might have seen them.

A spokesman said: “Officers investigating this incident would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the theft or who may have captured the two vehicles travelling in convoy from Banbury to Middleton Cheney between 2.20pm and 2.45pm. Anyone with information is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting reference number 22000421298.”

Police urge caution after withdrawing cash, either by alerting staff to anything untoward, driving to somewhere like a petrol station, or using the car horn to attract attention.
