Police make two arrests in connection to Banbury town centre stabbing

Police have arrested two men in connection to a stabbing in the Banbury town centre.

Thames Valley Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from Banbury, on suspicion of grievious bodily harm (GBH).

The 18-year-old man has been released on police bail until March 20.

The 26-year-old man was released on police bail until April 4.

The investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing.

Police originally responded to an incident that left a man seriously injured from a stabbing in the town centre of Banbury.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident during a which a 29-year-old man suffered stab wounds.

Officers were called to Butchers Row in Banbury, at around 6.40am Saturday March 7 to a report of a stabbing. South Central Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

The stabbing occurred inside a property in Butchers Row, which then continued outside into the street.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Jess Milne, of Abingdon police station, said: “This was a shocking incident in Banbury, which resulted in a man sustaining stab wounds.

“It is believed that the offenders and victim were in the Venus nightclub in Banbury the evening before (Friday March 6).

“I would also like to reassure residents that we believe this incident to be isolated, and that there is not a wider threat to the general public.

“Incidents such as this are investigated thoroughly and we would like to reassure and thank the public for their patience and understanding while this takes place."
