Police make drugs arrest in response to reports of congregating youths in Bodicote

Police are encouraging people not to meet up with people outside for the safety of others during the coronavirus outbreak.

Police are reminding people to know where their children are, and who they with throughout the day.

Officers responded yesterday (Wednesday March 25) to several reports of youths congregating together across the Cherwell District.

Police arrested a youth on suspicion of drug supply after officers located one of the reported groups of youths in Bodicote.

Police also issued a cannabis warning to another youth in the same group found in Bodicote.

The arrest was made after police conducted a S23 Misuse of Drugs Act search and officers seized some class B drugs.

Banbury Neighbourhood Police Team are out today (Thursday March 26) patrolling parks, playing fields, reservoirs and areas where groups of people have been reported as gathering.

Thames Valley Police from the Cherwell District said on a Facebook post: "Please - the advice is clear - stay at home and follow the rules.

"We are using all our current powers we have to tackle the issue. As with new legislation comes new laws and powers which will be issued to us hopefully Thursday (today March 26).

"At the minute, people are allowed to leave their homes for one hour of exercise with those who they live with. Anyone not abiding by this are being challenged.

Police are encouraging people to report sightings of people gathering in groups by calling 101.
