Police launch witness appeal after Banbury stabbing

Thames Valley Police are investigating an incident this morning that left a man seriously injured from a stabbing in the town centre of Banbury.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident during a which a 29-year-old man suffered stab wounds.

Officers were called to Butchers Row in Banbury, at around 6.40am today (Saturday March 7) to a report of a stabbing. South Central Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

The victim has been taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

The stabbing occurred inside a property in Butchers Row, which then continued outside into the street.

It is believed there were two offenders, both of which were described as Asian men. They fled the scene on foot.

There is a scene watch in place in Butchers Row while officers investigate this incident.

No arrests have been made as of late this morning.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Jess Milne, of Abingdon police station, said: “This was a shocking incident in Banbury, which resulted in a man sustaining stab wounds.

“He has been taken to hospital, with injuries that are serious but not life threatening.

“The offenders are described as two Asian men, who fled on foot following the incident.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident, and that might have information, to please come forward and speak to police.

“This incident took place at a time where it could be likely that someone saw or heard something. I would urge those people to get in contact with us.

“It is believed that the offenders and victim were in the Venus nightclub in Banbury the evening before (Friday March 6).

“I would also like to reassure residents that we believe this incident to be isolated, and that there is not a wider threat to the general public.

“There will be an increased police presence in Butchers Row, as well as the remainder of Banbury town centre today, as officers carry out an investigation. We are determined to locate and bring the offenders to justice, as well as locate the weapon.

“Incidents such as this are investigated thoroughly and we would like to reassure and thank the public for their patience and understanding while this takes place."
