Man arrested in connection to serious collision near Banbury that left passenger with life threatening injuries

Thames Valley Police are looking for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision which took place on the A4260 near Banbury.

The incident started after a dark blue Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop for officers in the Banbury town centre just before 11pm on Tuesday September 15.

The vehicle then joined the A4260 road at speed, in the direction of Oxford. As it approached the junction with the B4100, Aynho Road, it overtook another vehicle on the road.

However it lost control and then collided with a stone wall on the offside of the road before coming to a stop.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment, then later released. He was arrested in connection with the incident and later released under investigation.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man from Walsall on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.

A passenger in the vehicle, a man aged in his 50s, suffered life threatening injuries and remains in hospital. A second passenger, a woman in her 40s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Naomi Hames, of the Roads Policing Department, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this incident, which resulted in three people sustaining injuries, one of which, a man in his fifties, sustaining life threatening injuries.

“I would like to appeal to any other drivers who were using this road at the same time as this incident on Tuesday. Did you see a dark blue Vauxhall Corsa, or did you see this incident taking place?

“We would like to hear from anyone who has any information in relation to this incident."
