The Cherwell District Council Community Safety Team posted the following message on its Facebook page about the incident: "We have warned time and time again..If you come into our district to collect scrap metal...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT PERMITS INSURANCE AND PAPERWORK❗️
"Unlike this couple who have had a tour around the district today collecting illegally. After trips to Banbury and surrounding villages we caught up with them in Bicester this afternoon. They weren’t pleased to see us!!
"Officers from both CDC Community Safety and Thames Valley Roads Policing and PCSO,s Guest & Beaumont all working in partnership to keep our residents safe from rogue and illegal collectors were on hand to offer some words of advice to this couple.
"Unfortunately it wasn’t the advice they wanted to hear and now it’s a long trip back home...on the train!

"Unfortunately the van and it’s contents will be heading elsewhere!
"Oh and as a side a £200 fixed penalty was issued to one for a breach of Covid regulations..Partnership work at its finest..as the driver said to us on his way to the train station."
