Harry Dunn's family have lodged a formal complaint against Northamptonshire Police after 'causing enormous distress' over the Interpol Red Notice issued for Anne Sacoolas.

The force denied telling the family's spokesman, Radd Seiger, about the intervention, which means the American driver accused of killing the teenager is wanted internationally, in a statement yesterday (Wednesday, May 13).

In a statement, the force said: "We wish to make it absolutely clear that, at no point, has Northamptonshire Police informed the family spokesperson for the Dunns, Radd Seiger, that an Interpol Red Notice has been issued in respect of Mrs Anne Sacoolas."

In response, Mr Seiger tweeted: “Northamptonshire Police have this pm issued the attached statement, which has succeeded in only causing enormous distress to Harry Dunn’s parents for which the authorities should be thoroughly ashamed.

“The best that Northamptonshire Police could come up with today was a non-denial denial which says that they did not tell us that a Red Notice had been issued.

“May I please remind all those in authority that there is a grieving family at the heart of this case and any attempt on your part to gaslight or mislead, or to attack me personally in any way, constitutes an attack on them.”

Mr Seiger claimed the email from Northamptonshire Police said the former CIA officer was 'wanted internationally', which Mr Seiger understood to mean as a Red Notice, although this was not explicitly mentioned.

Harry, 19, died after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with Sacoolas' Volvo, which she has admitted was on the wrong side of the road, near Croughton on August 27, 2019.

The American driver initially co-operated with police but then told officers she had diplomatic immunity before flying back to the United States a few weeks later.

She was charged with causing death by dangerous driving in December, but the US State Department rejected an extradition request in January.

On Monday, it emerged Sacoolas is now subject to an Interpol Red Notice, which means she will be arrested if she leaves the US.

The family's spokesman said he has complained to Northamptonshire police, fire and crime commissioner, Stephen Mold, over the statement.

The spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police added: “Given that this remains a live case it would be inappropriate to comment further. However, Northamptonshire Police continues to support the Dunn family at this difficult time.”
