Coombes bags two more as Sports ease through in tie

George Coombes came off the bench to bag another brace as Easington Sports moved in to then next round of the UHLSport Hellenic League Bluefin Challenge Cup.

Goals from Henry Rose, Joe Eyre and Coombes (2) sealed a 4-1 victory at the premier division outfit.

Andrew Stidder and Josh Rose had chances for the Division One West side but Adam Rimmer pulled off two excellent saves to keep them on level terms in the first half.

Sports took the lead after the restart when a free-kick was only cleared as far as Tom Smith whose first time cross was forced home by Rose.

Virginia Water equalised through Matthew Jones before manager Ben Milner was forced to make a change, bringing on Coombes for Smith, who was struck in the back of the head during an off the ball incident which unseen by the officials.

From virtually his first touch, the young striker picked up the ball 25 yards outs and smashed his shot in via the bar. Sports controlled the closing stages especially after Dominic Clarke got a straight red card.

Coombes back-heeled a pass for Rose who broke through and crossed for Eyre to convert. Moments later Coombes applied a real poacher’s finish.
