The driver of the Land Rover was thrown from the vehicle, but his leg became trapped beneath the vehicle when it rolled onto its side.

Firefighters used air bags to free the man, who was trapped for around an hour and received a serious leg injury and a pelvic injury.

Ambulance crews and paramedics gave him emergency treatment and pain relief and he was airlifted to the University Hospital, Coventry in the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Firefighters also freed the woman who had been driving the Mercedes, who had sustained a chest injury. She and a man travelling in the car were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
