L&Q Estates has secured outline planning permission for 1,000 homes, which will include 30 per cent affordable housing, on a site at Wykham Park Farm.

The approval by Cherwell District Council will lead to the creation of a three form-entry primary school and an opportunity to expand the adjoining secondary school.

Planned community facilities include sports pitches and a pavilion, a children’s play area and a local centre including a community hall.

L&Q Estates, based in Warwick, will also build a significant proportion of a new road that will link Bloxham Road and White Post Road, to relieve traffic congestion and improve road safety on nearby local roads.

Gregg Wilkinson, group managing director at L&Q Estates, said: “We have worked closely with Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council over many years to reach this position and will continue to do so as we look to implement the main infrastructure before we sell serviced parcels of land to house builders.

“The homes, including affordable housing, will be built to a high quality and will help to meet the demand for housing in the area.

“The scheme will include a package of community benefits totalling over £20 million, including sports pitches, play areas, allotments and a new primary school to help meet the education needs of those living in this area, which will make Wykham Park Farm a great place to live and make a big difference to the existing and new community.”

The development is situated on land allocated in the Cherwell Local Plan. Work is expected to start in Autumn 2020 and the first new homes are expected to be completed in 2021.
