Champion twirlers bring home the trophies

Youngsters from Banbury came home with a host of trophies after competing in a regional twirling.

Members of the Banbury Cross Twirling Club, aged from four to 17, collected the awards in a variety of events including freestyle, strut, dance and pom poms at the event in Lutterworth on Sunday, September 27.

Club leader Janet Green said: “The girls worked hard over the last few months and they deserved to bring these trophies home. I know they are all over the moon with their success.”

The club trains at Ruscote Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays and anyone interested in joining should call 01295 261074.

Twirling is a growing sporting art form involving spinning or rotating of batons, gymnastics and dance for play or performance.

Twirling tournaments are hotly contested. The Lutterworth event was organised by the British Baton Twirling Sporting Association and contested by clubs from the Midlands area.

The girls competed in individual, pairs and team classes.
