Celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight in Banbury

The two-week initiative from February 29 to March 13 helps support farmers and workers from across the world who grow a variety of different products such as bananas, coffee and tea.

And in Banburyshire pupils at Deddington CoE Primary School were busy themselves as they baked fairtrade cakes, making Fairtrade books and even children dressing the colours of the Fairtrade logo - black, green or blue.

Daisy Barnett’s chocolate, brownies, labelled ‘Buy Fairtrade’ was chosen as the winner of the baking competition.

At Christopher Rawlins CoE Primary School in Adderbury, children and their parents came together on March 5 to enjoy a Fairtrade breakfast.

And Banbury’s Fairtrade Action Group were joined by patron and Countryfile presenter John Craven in Sainsbury’s on Saturday as he was helping to promote the event.

Enid Frost, secretary of the action group, said: “Whenever I have done school assemblys about Fairtrade the children really know their stuff and its impact across the world.”
