Banbury MP Victoria Prentis and Keep the Horton General (KTHG) group have put out an open invitation to hospital supporters to join them in another demonstration outside the maternity department on Saturday, July 30, at 7.45pm.

As with Tuesday’s rally it will not be on hospital property but on the road outside.

The event is timed to allow midwives from the unit to join the protest at the planned downgrading of Banbury’s vital birth unit.

Photos will be sent to the media to air the crisis and the new fight to stop the service being moved to Oxford.

KTHG says senior doctors who have resigned in the wake of the Oxford University Hospitals Trust (OUH) presenting plans to downgrade the Horton cannot be blamed for ‘jumping ship’ before they are made redundant.

One member of KTHG said: “OUH is a unit and placing Horton as a ‘dead hand’ on career development is neither clever nor an effective use of resource. There is paucity of goodwill and imagination in the trust.”

The group called for rotation of doctors from Oxford to keep the unit open.
