Banbury shoppers made their way to the town’s new out-of-town retail park today (Thursday) as the new 80,000 sq ft M&S store opened its doors.
Complete with a food hall and 200-seat cafe, the store was full of people looking at the latest deals ahead of the Christmas rush and also with those wanting to relax with a bite to eat.
The Banbury Gateway development welcomed six other retailers on the day, including Poundland who opened their second store in the area with the one in Malthouse Walk. Other retailers included Starbucks, McDonalds, EE, Carphone Warehouse and Mountain Warehouse.
Adding to the excitement at Poundland, the first 100 customers to the store received a free £5 voucher to spend and entertainment was in store throughout the day from Poundland’s very own mascot, Pound Hound!
Poundland’s Retail Director, Martin Dawson, says: “We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to Banbury.”
“Poundland offers amazing value on top branded products to over 5.5 million customers every week for just £1 and we look forward to opening our doors!”
Another popular choice at Banbury Gateway is the town’s new Starbucks, which will create up to 20 jobs in the area.
It will offer shoppers a place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy Starbucks beverages, including the Autumn favourite Pumpkin Spice Latte.
New customers will have an opportunity to participate in coffee tastings and sample some Starbucks favourites at the opening, with vouchers to treat a friend to a Starbucks also being handed out during the opening week.
Simon Redfern, Starbucks communications director for Europe said: “We’re delighted to be opening our new store. The new Starbucks offers a convenient place for shoppers to take a break, and we’re looking forward to welcoming new faces visiting Banbury Gateway Retail Park.”
Other stores confirmed for Banbury Gateway include Primark, Ed’s Diner and Fat Face who will all open in next month.
Next and New Look have been confirmed for next Spring.
