'˜Brutal' attack on sleeping man by three burglars in Banbury

Three burglars wearing balaclavas attacked a man while he slept in his bed after breaking into his home in Banbury with police appealing for information.

The intruders, armed with hammers and bats, smashed down the front door of the property in Merton Street at around 12.05am in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 8).

A 31-year-old man was asleep in bed when he was assaulted by the attackers who then left the address.

The victim stumbled out of his home and raised the alarm with other residents, before being taken by ambulance to the Horton General Hospital with a head injury – he has since been discharged.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Bryan Groves said: “This was a brutal attack in the victims’ own home.

“It has left him feeling very frightened for his safety.

“I am appealing for anyone with any information about this offence, or anyone who saw this offence in progress, to come forward to the police or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
