A Brackley balloon modeller has wowed judges at the World Balloon Convention to bring home two bronze awards.
Mike Hurst, of Reds Balloons & Parties, entered three out of nine categories at the competition which was held in San Diego, in California last month.
Nearly 900 delegates from 52 countries around the world attended the convention. Mike’s entries were based on the animated film Finding Dory, and the World Cup.
Mike started working with balloons five years ago, creating displays out of his garage after completing a Qualatex Fundamentals course.
In January 2014, he moved into a corner unit at The Courtyard shops and a year later moved to a slightly bigger unit and became a Qualatex Balloon Boutique, moving to Draymans Walk in January 2016.
Since then Reds has recorded a Hallowe’en special for a popular industry Youtube channel and Mike passed his CBA exam and became a certified balloon artist.
Mike is currently planning Reds’ entry for Brackley Community Carnival procession at the beginning of June, and is hoping to wow the spectators with an incredible display of giant balloon walking costumes for the theme Animal Kingdom. Reds is looking for volunteers in the procession. Customers can pop into the shop to register their interest.
