Book club meets author by Skype

In a change to the usual format of its monthly meetings, members of the Radway Book Club decamped to The Falcon at Warmington last Wednesday for a '˜meet the author' event with a difference.

The book under discussion was James Marrison’s first published novel and, as James lives in Buenos Aires, the club had arranged for the session to take place via Skype.

James, who is a journalist and married to an Argentinian, used to live in the Cotswolds and his crime thriller, The Drowning Ground, is set in and around Moreton-in-Marsh. It features an Argentinian-born detective, Guillermo Downes, and his partner Sergeant Graves.

Certain incidents in the novel are based on a real-life murder which took place in Lower Quinton in 1945.

Responding to questions, Mr Marrison provided a fascinating insight into the writing of the book and the more practical aspects of getting a first novel published.
