Residents living in the Barfords began the New Year enjoying another of their popular village walks through the winter countryside.

The event is always well attended by those living in Barford St Michael and Barford St John, and is one of many events held each year to raise funds for the Kathmandu Orphanage in Nepal which is close to many villager’s hearts.

Walkers started off from the village hall and enjoyed a leisurely walk across the Oxfordshire countryside before returning to the George Inn in Barford St Michael.

Mariann Young was one of those who took part in the event, and said: “Sixty five people plus lots of dogs turned up with some doing a short walk of one hour and the remainder doing the full two hours.

“Very wet and muddy conditions meant that walkers and dogs returned in a rather mucky state. The morning raised £275 for the orphanage that many in our villages support throughout the year, and the game soup, made from donations of pheasant, partridge and left over turkey proved to be a bit hit!”
