A report published today by the government health watchdog described the service provided by the practice on Nightingale Place, Bicester, as “inadequate” and found patients were at risk of harm.

The report states “We found medicine management systems did not always follow national guidance. There are not always appropriate procedures in place relating to medicines.”

Langford Medical Practice will now have to work with NHS partners to tackle the issues raised by inspectors. A follow up inspection is due to take place in six months.

Partners at the GP practice said they were ‘disappointed’ at the findings: “We can reassure our patients and the wider public that we are actively improving our working procedures so that we can further improve our performance. We have shared the report and discussed our actions with the practice Patient Reference Group and we remain grateful for all the support we have received from our patients in the past and will ensure that we remain worthy of this trust in the future.”

In a statement published on the practice’s website, Langford Medical Practice Patient Reference Group said they were “extremely shocked” at the report. They added: “Whilst no one doubted the findings regarding inadequacies in some of their reporting systems and concerns raised regarding recruitment and H&S, there is no doubting the excellent care provided by the staff at the practice.

“We have been assured by the management that all steps are being taken to address the concerns raised and that at no time was patient care compromised.

“We intend to continue to support the surgery and have confidence that all shortcomings are being addressed.”

The practice was found to be in breach of regulations relating to employment checks, the monitoring, training and assessment as well as and the unsafe management of medicines.”
