Best foot forward for road safety awareness

Children who dress up can get money off the price of their shoes at Brantano today, Thursday.

Staff at the Banbury Cross Retail Park store are calling on Banbury children to dress up and help brighten up the store as they raise funds for the road safety charity, Brake.

Today, Thursday, staff are dressing in traffic light colours, and they want children to join them and show off their best red, amber and green outfits during Beep Beep! Day.

As a thank you, children who come into the store in their costumes will also get 15 per cent off their shoe purchase.

Brake is a national road safety charity that exists to stop needless deaths and serious injuries on roads.

With nearly two-thirds of trips in the UK being made by car, including four in 10 trips of under two miles, Brake is committed to reducing the number of cars on the road by encouraging short trips, such as the school run, to be made on foot.

The Beep Beep! Day campaign helps raise funds for the charity’s work.

Each Brantano staff member who takes part in store or at head office donates £1.

Store manager Kate Witwicki said: “The Beep Beep! Day campaign is a great way to raise awareness and engage with children about the importance of road safety. We will all be getting involved and getting our best traffic light outfits on so it will certainly be a bright day in store.

“At Brantano, we are already committed to providing a service that looks after children’s foot health, and we are keen to promote and encourage the health and environmental benefits of walking to school.”
