Banbury's Rock the Atic begins comedy marathon this evening

Banbury will be at the centre of the stand-up-up comedy universe for the next five days as a world record is attempted.

The Atic, in Butchers Row, will begin an attempt on the longest running stand-up comedy show tonight, March 29, from 6pm.

The current record is 80 hours and was set in 2015 by a comedy club in Nashville, but Atic manager Harry Parman is confident they will beat it with a combination of great jokes and coffee.

Harry said: “It’s going to be hard work but it’s going to be good fun as well, it’s going to be nuts.”

In order to qualify for the Guinness world record the Atic needs at least 10 people in the audience at all times and it is appealing for your help in maintaining that quota during the wee hours.

To this end anyone who is in the venue between the hours of 5 and 8am will be served a free bacon butty and a cup of coffee.

Over 100 comedians will be on stage from home-grown local talent to established comedy circuit regulars.

Kicking off the event at 6pm this evening will be Marlon Davies who appeared on Live from the Apollo last December. A full list of each day’s acts will be posted on the Atic’s Facebook page.

Tickets are available in three different formats; £15 for a weekend pass which allows you to come and go as you please, £5 for a day ticket which lasts for 24 hours, or pay as you go at £3 on the door.

Attendees will also be given tickets to comedy gigs in April if they feature in the 6am InsomniAtic photo.
