A feasibility study has been carried out into a People’s Park Cafe and expressions of interest from three potential franchisees have been received.

Leader of Banbury Town Council Kieron Mallon said: “We have been looking for some time at ways to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of People’s Park, especially ways of improving the attraction of the park and increasing the quality of visitor experience.

“A café would complement the number of community events held in the park and the council would enter into a partnership with a franchisee. We have already had three expressions of interest.

He added: “There are a number of options. Existing buildings in the community garden could be converted and we are exploring the cost of new build. We will decide in the near future how to proceed.”

The proposal was discussed further at the General Services Committee meeting on September 4.

Chairman of the committee Cllr Colin Clarke, said: “I know, certainly from the surveys we’ve had with the public over recent years, it is one of the number one requests.

“We have had three expressions of interests for a cafeteria. That’s as far as we have got with it at the moment but I suggest the next stage is to look a lot more closely at the location.”
