It's that time of the year again when Spiceball Park welcomes hundreds of runners from across the country for the Banbury 15-mile race.

The event will be held on Sunday and is regarded as a warm-up event for those taking part in the London Marathon next month. And from this year the event has been named in memory of much loved race organiser and Banbury Harrier athlete Geoff Smith, who died last year.

The main race starts at 10.30am in Spiceball Park with runners heading out along Southam Road to Great Bourton and Cropredy before looping up around Appletree and returning along the same route back to the park.

Last year’s race was won by Ollie Garrod, with James Bolton coming home in second place and 2014 champion Paul Fernandez finishing third.

As well as the main race, there will also be a chance for people to either take part in a shorter 2.5-mile or one mile run in the grounds of Spiceball Park.

Named in memory of former Banbury Guardian editor Paul Bithell, these runs will start at 10.40am and all proceeds will go to Katharine House Hospice.

Anyone wishing to take part in the 15-mile race can still enter online by visiting runbritain.com and searching for the Banbury Run.

Entries for the fun runs are all taken on the day.
