Banbury girl gives the gift of giving this Christmas

Izzy Morris, who will turn seven on December 27 , is the only child of Jenna and Mark Morris and last week she selflessly decided to have her flowing locks cut off to raise money for the Little Princess Trust charity.

Jenna said: “My daughter Izzy who is six has exceptionally long hair, almost down on her waist, and has wanted it cut shorter for about 18 months.

“ I wasn’t so keen but one day she came to me and said that because she didn’t want her hair any more she wanted to give it to a little girl who maybe needed it more than she did, and asked if this was possible, so I told her about the Little Princess Trust and what they did. Izzy was delighted.”

Not just content with donating her own hair to the trust, who use the strands to furnish life-like wigs for children who have lost theirs through either medical treatment or accident, Izzy also wanted to use the opportunity to raise some hard cash.

Jenna said: “We were watching a program about Children in Need and all the fundraising that people do and she asked if it would be possible to fund raise for her hair cut. So here we are today.

“Izzy has chosen herself to raise money for The Children’s Society as we have a shop within out local community and they help children for all sorts of reason, some that are less fortunate than she is.”

A JustGiving page was set up and with a modest target of £300. Within two hours the page had over £100 in donations and the target was increased to £400.

The big chop happened on December 9 at the newly-opened Redmill Hair Salon in Hanwell Fields and was witnessed by Izzy’s mum and dad along with her grandparents, who she is close to.

In all the haircut took about an hour to complete and the Little Princess Trust will now receive 30 centimetres of Izzy’s hair to be made into wigs.

Izzy’s altruism is a rare character trait in someone so young but is one which she displays at every available opportunity.

Jenna said: “Every year she sorts her own toys out to give away to others. This year she also wanted to give a few to the Horton children’s ward as she was there recently needing a tooth out and they were incredible so she wanted to help them get better.

“I really couldn’t ask for a better child, she’s absolutely incredible. She won’t even write a list to Santa because she thinks that he needs to concentrate on other children and he’s been so good to her every year.”

Just a week ago Izzy won a teddy in a grab machine and gave it to a little girl who had been previously unsuccessful in her attempts to win the bear motivating the girl’s mother, Tara Coombes, to send a thank you via social media.

She said “I want her to know that she made my daughter’s day and that it was kindest thing I’ve ever witnessed... her mum should be so proud!!!! Xxx”
