Sport Relief has given Banbury Food for Charities £500 so it can reduce food waste.
The charity picks up surplus food such as fruit, vegetables, bread, dry and tinned food from market traders, and supermarkets such as Aldi, M&S, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons and delivers it to over a dozen local charities including BYHP and North Banbury Children’s Centre.
The Sport Relief grant will pay for insurance, and for petrol for the volunteer drivers.
Volunteer Riki Therivel said: “The grant is wonderful news, and acknowledges the good work of Banbury Food for Charities.
“It’s a win-win-win. We reduce food waste, reduce costs for local charities, and support healthy eating.”
Banbury Food for Charities needs more volunteer drivers and drivers’ helpers.
