A 36-year-old chef from Banbury who was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year has so far raised more than £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after playing four golf courses in one day.

Jason Farr took part in the fundraising event on June 12 with friends Mike Baxter, Ben Hellings and PGA professional Mark McGeehan.

Known as the Leukaemia Skywalkers, they teed off at 4am at Cherwell Edge Golf Club near Middleton Cheney, before heading to Oxford Golf Club for 9am, Magnolia Park at 1pm and concluding at Studley Wood at 5.55pm.

Mr Farr, of Alma Road, plans to raise £10,000 for the charity and said: “It went really well and all the golf clubs were amazing throughout the day. We ended up at Cherwell Edge for about 4.30am and they kept the gates open for us to get on the course, but we didn’t have time to sit around so my girlfriend Chelsea and Ben’s girlfriend Laura were amazing making sure we were all fed.

“It was a long day but it was great fun, we had a bit of comedy games throughout the day. I wore a mankini at Cherwell Edge, Mike played the 18th in his boxers and we made the worst player after nine holes wear a traffic cone hat. Mark had six consecutive birdies and I nearly had a hole-in-one on the 17th!”

Mr Farr was diagnosed after he fell ill while working on a yacht in the Caribbean at the start of the year.

He was initially treated at St Bart’s Hospital in Guadeloupe before returning to the UK where he underwent treatment at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.

Now in remission, the chef still has regular hospital appointments but hopes to return to work in December.

He wants to raise as much as possible to support individuals and families across the country who are fighting cancer.

Mr Farr added: “We are doing this for every amazing nurse, doctor, researcher and every brave soul currently battling, have beaten or to the ones who lost their fight with this disease.

“It is also to all the Friends, family and loved ones everywhere who support us every step of the way.”
