Following their heavy opening day defeat against Henley, Banbury were thumped 9-2 at West Hamsptead in Saturday’s division three fixture.
Banbury dominated from the start of the game but two quick goals from Nicole Dainton and Natasha Charlesworth put West Hampstead in control. Despite some excellent passages of play and hard work in the middle from Maddy Hunt, Banbury conceded a penalty corner which was put away by Kate Rowley. Dainton got her second goal shortly after but Banbury continued to work hard and Tash Roberts converted a penalty corner with a cracking strike into the bottom right hand corner.
Lack of availability meant Banbury had no substitutes and the team tired towards the end of the first half. West Hampstead capitalised and scored twice more before halftime.
After the restart an impressive run by Vicky Warlow saw her go close but Lorna McMullan increased West Hampstead’s lead and a defensive error saw another penalty corner converted by Catherine Smith.
