Apprentice of the year, Robbie Powell, was congratulated by Prime Minister David Cameron during the PM’s visit to Chipping Norton on Friday last week. Mr Powell, 21, works for Chipping Norton Builders and received his accolade at the Oxfordshire Construction Training Group (OCTG) Awards in October.

Mr Cameron has announced a government pledge to create 3 million apprenticeships by 2020.

Robbie recently qualified with an NVQ Level 3 in carpentry after studying at ACE Training in Kidlington and working for three years with Chipping Norton Builders. As well as a trophy, Mr Powell received a cheque for £125 which he will spend on new tools for work.
