Andrew recognised for his unstinting voluntary work

A Banbury man has been recognised for his unstinting work raising money and volunteering for local groups and charities.

Andrew Willis has won a Halifax Giving Extra Awards, recognising people who go the extra mile for their community.

One of 66 local winners from across the UK, out of thousands of nominations, Andrew has been recognised by the local panel of the awards.

Each year, charity fundraisers, sports coaches, community volunteers and others are recognised for the contribution they make.

Andrew was nominated by Tina Turvey, who worked with himat Age UK. For more than 10 years, Andrew has volunteered across a series of community projects – including Age UK Oxfordshire, the Banbury branch of the Workers Education Association,and MIND.

Andrew said: “I was overjoyed to find out I had won a Halifax Giving Extra Award.

“I do not do anything looking for recognition, but I do feel incredibly proud.”

Halifax community ambassador Helen Hicks said: “The work that Andrew has done for the community is outstanding and truly deserves this recognition. He has truly gone the extra mile for people in our community and we are delighted to recognise this.”

The 66 local award winners will each receive £300 in Supercheque vouchers.

Seven regional winners will then be chosen, who will receive a grant of up to £5,000 to make a difference in their community.
