Fay Hield is a multi-award-winning folk artist who has won the BBC Radio 2 folk award, been nominated for BBC Radio 2’s Horizon award and is also recognised in the world of academia as a lecturer in Music at The University of Sheffield. Fay will be coming to The Mill Arts Centre, along with her six-piece band, The Hurricane Party, with songs from her new album, Old Adam, which takes traditional folk songs and twists them to appeal to a modern day audience and asks audiences to think about how we relate to them. The Popes’ guitarist and piano player Ian Bramble will be playing his blend of indie, blues and Irish rock with local guitarist Richie ‘Machine Gun’ Hoy from the popular local band Big Eyed Fish, and Nicky Bramble on vocals. The Banned will be playing music from their debut album Hurricane Ride and their follow up album recorded with Status Quo’s John Coghlan as well as songs from The Popes and Pogues set list. Joanna Eden: Joni & Me. Talented singer and personal mentor to Sam Smith, Joanna Eden will grace audiences with her vocals and heartfelt musical tribute to Joni Mitchell. Bicester-based oboeist Maddy Aldis-Evans will be playing Mozart’s Oboe Concerto in C major and Klughardt’s Konzertstück for Oboe and Orchestra at Trinity Camerata’s Spring Concert. The concert will open with Mendelssohn’s Overture The Fair Melusina and will also include Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 (The London Symphony). Tickets available on the door, costing £10 for adults.

Banbury Folk Club is getting into the Irish spirit the night before St Patrick’s Day with Cliodhna. The band comprise five musicians with experience of playing traditional music and song, and feature Anne Tarrant on fiddle, Bill McKinnon on vocals and guitar, Paul Hancock with whistle-playing Stephen Sindell on bodhran and Lefty Wright on cajon. Expect jigs, reels and songs not only full of warmth and vigour but also the perfect backdrop to a pint or two of the ‘black stuff’. There will be a prize for the best Irish costume. Middleton Cheney Village Hall

A ‘pop-up planetarium’ show will be held in support of British Science Week. The show is a celebration of the best of British science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring fascinating, entertaining and engaging events across the UK. There will be a quick tour of the solar system, followed by an immersive 360 degree science film. Performances are scheduled at regular intervals from 3.45pm.

Booking is required. Tickets are available from Middleton Cheney library or Middleton Cheney Primary Academy during school hours.

Blenheim - an insight into the lives of Sarah the first Duchess and Winston Churchill. The private resources of Blenheim Palace are drawn upon to afford new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man and Sarah, the first duchess, who was a passionate woman who at times favoured or alienated all around her.

Tickets £5 from the library. Tea and cakes will be available to buy separately. All proceeds go help keep the library open.

The Thinking Drinkers are award-winning drinks writers and comedy performers Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham. Together they have also written and performed The Thinking Drinker’s Guide to Alcohol, a unique comedic drinking show that debuted at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe. Following sell-out shows and excellent reviews, it returned to Edinburgh in 2012 and later transferred to the Soho Theatre.

Their most recent show, The Thinking Drinker’s Guide to the Legends of Liquor, sold out seasons at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014 and 2015. The show subsequently inspired an award-winning book, The Thinking Drinkers: An Enlightened Imbibers Guide to Alcohol. Rumours that their success is down to the fact that every ticket holder is entitled to five free drinks remain unsubstantiated.
