Residents show off their creative skills

Glebefields Exhibition - Residents Margaret Oxley and Peggy Angers by some flower displays at the Glebefields exhibiton

TALENTED residents at Glebefields Care Centre in Drayton showed there is plenty of creativity among older people when they displayed their home-made arts and crafts on Saturday.

Forty residents proudly exhibited their self-produced goods which included flower arrangements, jams, jewellery, cards and baking.

Residents’ friends and relatives were invited along to marvel at the huge range of products and to purchase them if they chose, and more than £180 was raised.

Joyce Furey, social care manager at the home which provides luxury accommodation and personal care, said: “I couldn’t believe the amount of talent that our residents have. When one of our ladies came up with the idea I thought it might be difficult to get enough produce together but I was amazed at what they came up with.

“It showed that people can still be creative and still take part whatever their age. The residents themselves were very surprised with what they created and they worked extremely hard to prepare for this.”

Mrs Furey plans to use the money raised to throw a party for the residents to celebrate their achievement.

She said: “They really deserve a party. I learnt so much from them.”

In fact the day was such a success that Mrs Furey hopes to make it an annual event.
