Genius of music stars celebrated at theatre

The musical story looking at the lives of Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield is coming to The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury.

Oh! Carol comes to the town on Friday March 4.

From their humble beginnings in Brooklyn to the dizzying heights of their success in the 50’s & 60’s the songwriting genius of Neil Sedaka and ‘Howie’ Howard Greenfield will go down in musical history as one of the most successful partnerships of all time.

This show is packed full of hits such as Calendar Girl, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, [Is This The Way To] Amarillo, Stupid Cupid and of course Oh! Carol.

These are masterpieces made famous not only by Sedaka himself but also other well known performers including Connie Francis, Tony Christie, Tom Jones and LaVern Baker.

The vocal talents of Damion Scarcella and Belinda Wollaston, backed by their band, take to the stage to bring you a show dedicated to celebrating these two giants of the song writing world with two hours worth of songs and the stories

The show charts their story from the early days when Greenfields’ mother heard a young Sedaka (who had won ascholarship the famous Julliard School of Music) practicing piano and suggested he get together with her son Howard to write songs.

The song writing duo were catapulted into stardom after Connie Francis recorded their song ‘Stupid Cupid’.

Damion Scarcella said: “Neil’s memorable melodies and Howie’s unforgettable lyrics helped shaped the modern day pop song, selling millions of records all over the world. They could turn a ‘down do bee doe do’ and a ‘wo wo wo yeah yeah yeah’ into platinum selling, Grammy award-winning songs.”
