Banbury’s Food and Drink Festival returns with dozens of traders and a celebrity chef

The popular festival on Sunday August 21 will be a scrumptious day out with around 80 traders offering treats and flavours from around the world

Banbury’s Market Place will overflow with food and drink of many cultures on Sunday August 21 when the popular Food and Drink Festival returns to the town.

The festival offers mouth-watering choices to shoppers and food fans, giving many the opportunity to taste different food and drinks from around the world.

Many traders will offer free samples so visitors to the festival can try them before they buy.

This year's festival will feature demonstrations by celebrity chef Paul Da Costa Greaves who brings his recognisable combination of entertainment and cooking and will instruct and amuse food lovers of all ages.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “Da Costa Greaves is well recognised in food circles as a lifestyle presenter, chef, and all-round joker. He will bring his holistic approach to making and preparing food to the food fair.

“Born in Merseyside to an English mother and Jamaican father, Paul has an infectious personality. He is colourful, funny, highly original, and can bring the most mundane, everyday cooking experiences to life.

“In addition to sharing the stage with cooking giants such as Mary Berry, Gino Da’Campo, and Levi Roots, Da Costa Greaves has also used his expertise to head up the government-led project “Love Food Hate Waste”, which looks at reducing food waste in the UK.”

The food festival will run from 11am until 5pm, and will include entertainment provided by five local live acts. Tables and chairs will be set out so visitors can relax and eat while enjoying the music.

Mayor Jayne Strangwood said: “The Food Fair is one of Banbury’s most popular events and attracts thousands of people every year.

"It celebrates everything good about food and drink and is an opportunity for people to try something different”.
