They have organised a traditional Victorian Magic Lantern show to raise vital funds for the charity.

Entitled The Charm of the Magic Lantern will welcome Allan and Rene from Sussex-based company Lantern Light, as they showcase some original Victorian and Edwardian slides on subjects as diverse as transport, the seaside and country life.

The pair are famous for finishing their shows with hand painted animated slides from the Victorian era, which many regard as being the fore-runner to cinema.

And they have delighted audiences at many different venues across the country, including folk festivals, museums and village halls.

Lantern performances were highly anticipated occasions for the Victorians, bringing a source of pleasure and laughter to the hardship and drudgery they faced in their day-to-day lives.

The show will offer the addition of entertainment through accompaniments to the visuals, with humorous readings and songs.

The event starts at 7.30pm in the Dupuis Centre on Dashwood Road. Tickets are £12 for adults and £6 for under 16 including mulled wine and nibbles. Call 07785 235715 to book in advance.
