One of Banbury's newest communities has come together to bring some festive cheer to the area.

And on top of that, they have also raised money for charity in the process.

It really was a community event with local businesses and the primary school all lending their support to the Longford Park Community Association, to make the event happen.

The Christmas tree was kindly donated by Hadsham farm and the base for the tree by Cotefield Nurseries in Bodicote. The local football team helped put the tree up and donated the lights.

And the community even managed to raise £164 for Oxfordshire charity Helen and Douglas House in the process.

"We are grateful to everyone that helped make this event happen. We could not have done it without you all. It was wonderful to see the community come together in a COVID-safe way to celebrate the start of the Christmas season." Kendra Bell, LPCA Vice-Chair.

The tree was decorated using baubles made by children from Longford Park Primary School.

Kimberley Dodd, LPCA committee member, said: "The children had gone to a lot of effort to make all the baubles and it was lovely to see them all up on the tree.

"I hope we can continue this tradition for many years to come."

The lights were switched on after a few words by LPCA chair Antonio Ferrara. Five local businesses had stalls outside and braved the cold thanks to gazebos loaned by a local estate agent Joe Vieria.

Lighting was provided by Fosseway Tool Hire and Tesco Banbury donated vouchers towards food and drink. Local resident Sebrina O'Rourke loaned equipment for the drinks.

Hopefully next year can be bigger and even better.
