'The lights are so amazing you can see the villages from space!' - how the Bourtons parish has been celebrating Christmas

Villagers have been raising money for charity by making wreaths, while also holding a Christmas lights competition

This Christmas in the Bourtons parish, two events have taken place including one which has raised £675 for Katharine House Hospice.

Since the beginning of April, the villages of Little and Great Bourton have worked hard to pull together and support one another while also having fun and raising money for various charities.

The Bourtons’ Big Lightfest 2020, a friendly competition to find the most popular outdoor Christmas lighting display, culminated this weekend with the winning prize being presented to Jackie and Andy Moxon of the aptly named Christmas Cottage.

The Bourtons’ Big Wreath Off saw 30 entrants make wreaths to put up on their doors to add a bit of Christmas cheer. Entrants were asked to donate to Katharine House Hospice.

One of the co-organisers, Ann Brooks, said: “A friend of mine from Banbury said he had driven through the Bourtons last weekend and reckons you can see the villages from space!

"Everyone has gone the extra mile this Christmas to spread light and happiness after such a difficult year. The icing on the cake is being able to raise money for our local hospice”.
