Chance for dancing in the street

Two free dance events will see an explosion of energy on the streets as professional performers invite the public to enjoy expressing themselves.

They are part of the celebrations of the tenth anniversary of Dancin’ Oxford.

Claire Thompson, founder of Dancin’ Oxford, said: “Both events are aimed at the whole family and we can guarantee something for everyone. You will not be disappointed!”

The first event, Dancin’ Into Summer, takes place from 12.30-5pm on Sunday (July 10)at the Cowley Road Carnival.

The dance stage at Manzil Gardens will showcase a variety of movement, and the action packed afternoon will feature special guests 2Faced Dance Company with their show KAPOW.

The show features phenomenal dance, vibrant costumes and audience interaction in a Superhero Games battle.

Dancin’ On The Green takes place from 12.15 - 5pm on Saturday July 16 at Gloucester Green in the city.

In addition to a dance stage there will be pop up dance performances. Everyone is welcome to take a picnic or choose from food stalls on site.

Four professional dance groups will perform as well as Urban Oxford Dance crews.

Move Me, a fun interactive dance event has motivated many of the nations’ streets to dance - think dance class meets flash mob meets party. Professional dancers will teach the moves so that everyone, regardless of experience, can get up and join in.

Other acts include Phone Box, which will be popping up on Cornmarket Street. This act breathes life into the nostalgic British icon with thrilling dance and a wacky digital sound score, an impressive feat of acrobatics and physical moves.
