Celebrating books at Banbury festival

A line up of authors, speakers, performers and workshops will be coming to Banbury later this week.

The fourth Banbury Literary Live event takes place on Sunday, November 20.

The whole day’s events are about bringing the community together and igniting a passion for literature.

Open to the whole community, this will have something for everyone.

Novelist and script-writer Jane Rogers will be one of those appearing.

She recently recorded a new radio drama starring David Tennant, adapted from two stories by Robert Louis Stevenson, for Radio 4’s Classic Serial.

Tennant plays the hero in the first, and narrates the second.

From the Middle East to Antarctica, esteemed freelance journalist Matthew Teller has explored some of the most majestic destinations the world has to offer.

Matthew will being giving an insight into his award-winning career at Banbury Literary Live, which will be held at the North Oxfordshire Academy.

The festival will boast local gardening legend Val Bourne (of The Ten Minute Gardener… fame) and The Untold Story of Kew Gardens author Vanessa Berridge amongst the creative mix of speakers, performances and workshops.

One of our leading organic gardeners, Val Bourne’s Spring Cottage garden flourishes under her natural regime without the need for any chemicals – even in the cold and windswept conditions of the Cotswolds.

Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary has been marked with some exceptional events and Oxford-based Shakespeare diva Alycia Smith-Howard has had a busy year acting as the specialist for many plays and films.

To coincide with the Bard’s anniversary, Alycia will kick off Banbury Literary Live at a special event on Saturday, 
November 19.

On Sunday, the doors open from 10.20am for music and crafts with author sessions from 11am to 4.30pm.

There will be a Christmas art and crafts fair and Waterstones bookstall.
