During National Hospice Care Week October 5 - 11, Shipston Home Nursing has come out with an appeal for extra support during the Covid 19 crisis. This is because patients are opting to be nursed at home so they are not denied seeing their loved ones through coronavirus restrictions.

The Shipston-based charity, which cares for adults with incurable illnesses who wish to spend the last few weeks in the comfort of their own homes, will provide free nursing care for around 150 patients this year. This is an increase of 25 per cent compared with 2019.

A large proportion of the cost of this care is funded by the generosity of the charity’s supporters and, in normal times, the proceeds from a full calendar of fundraising events. However, as most of these events have been cancelled due to the pandemic, the charity’s income has suffered.

Andrew Revell, Executive Director of Shipston Home Nursing, said: “Like so many other charities 2020 has been extremely challenging. We have nursed more patients and have seen an increase in those wishing to die at home as they worry about Covid restrictions preventing them from seeing families and friends at the end of their lives.

"In this uncertain environment, with an increased demand for our services and reduced income, the charity needs to be able plan with confidence to ensure that we can continue to care for everyone who needs us and this is why we are asking for our community’s help by setting up a regular monthly donation to ensure that Shipston Home Nursing is sustainable for the foreseeable future."

If you are able to help please visit the charity's website donation page here where you can sign up to make a monthly donation to Shipston Home Nursing.
