The company's community outreach team, Magna in Action, has donated the cash which, at some stage later this year, will be put towards much-needed refurbishing of the floor of the outdoor cat pens at BARKS' Bodicote rescue centre.

A Magna in Action spokesperson said: “This was a popular decision by our community team. We're so impressed by the work that BARKS do, especially as they're all volunteers.

"Many of us are pet lovers – some of us have even adopted BARKS animals in the past – and this is our chance to make a difference.”

Magna Exteriors in Banbury, normally responsible for the production and assembly of bumpers and sills for BMW and Jaguary Land Rover, have turned their hand to helping in the local community making personal protective equipment (PPE). Magna Exteriors has made more than 700 protective visors for staff members with the NHS.

BARKS chair Ann Collins added: “This is the second year of our corporate sponsorship campaign and it's great to have support from such a well-known Banbury manufacturing name.”

The charity is still hoping to attract a longer-term main business sponsor later this year.
