The care home, on Chapel Square, Deddington, is asking for pictures and memorabilia of the surrounding area to help spark conversation between the residents ahead of the anniversary on 8 May.

Reminiscence activities have many proven benefits for the older generations including helping to reduce symptoms of depression, improving communication skills and enhancing self-esteem.

“VE Day is an important day for many of us and it’s great that we can think of alternative ways to celebrate like reminiscence activities. Looking back on old pictures of our town will be a great way to mark the special day.

“I’m looking forward to having my favourite tipple with my friends at Featherton for our ‘only residents allowed’ party!”

Holly Rose, home manager at Featherton House care home, said: “Featherton is a big part of the community and we are grateful for the fantastic support we receive from the community.

“During this period of uncertainty, we are looking for pictures of Deddington or Banbury from years gone by or any memorabilia we can use to aid reminiscence activities for our residents.

"If you’d like to help, then please email them to us so that we can share them with our residents.”
