The charity is supporting staff at the Horton General Hospital including those who are working in areas directly impacted by the coronavirus.

In a letter sent to the Oxford Hospitals Charity, on behalf of the Radio Horton Committee, Chairman Anthony Brown wrote: “We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the incredibly hard work that you and your team have undertaken in the midst of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and recognise the invaluable support that the hospital charity is providing to doctors, nurses, clinicians, clerical staff, cleaners, porters, admin staff and all at the Horton General Hospital and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.”

The Banbury-based hospital, health and wellbeing radio station, which is now in its 56th year of broadcasting wanted to show solidarity with its colleagues who have been working hard to care for and look after patients.

Mr Brown added: “As a charity ourselves, based within the Horton General Hospital, we appreciate the challenges involved with fundraising and wanted to acknowledge our full support to you through this global pandemic and to show that we stand shoulder to shoulder with everybody working in our hospitals during these difficult and unprecedented times.”

“It is hoped that our contribution will assist in providing vital access for our hospital staff to support, goods and/or services that they may need and we offer our heartfelt thanks for your incredible work, it really is very much appreciated.”

Joe Baker from the Oxford Hospitals Charity (including the Horton General Hospital Charity) expressed his thanks to Radio Horton and said: “Thank you so much for the kind donation and for the support that you are giving us during this challenging time.”

“We'll make sure that a letter of thanks gets sent to you all, but rest assured that your donation will help make a real difference to our staff.”

Meanwhile, the hospital radio station has suspended all of its activities from within the Horton General Hospital including ward visiting and live programming but is continuing to broadcast some live or pre-recorded programmes where presenters have the facilities to do so at home.

Radio Horton is broadcasting and sharing key information from the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to patients, showcasing some local initiatives in the community which have a health and wellbeing focus, in addition to supporting & promoting the invaluable work of the Oxford Hospitals Charity.
