Two Banbury area schools hold socially distanced Bonfire Night and fireworks celebrations

Pupils from nursery to year six were treated to an afternoon bonfire with hot dogs and drinks, held within the beautiful school grounds.

In previous years, Carrdus have always wanted to put on a big show when it comes to hosting events, but the recent social distancing guidelines meant that the celebrations had to be scaled down.

However, it was a welcome dose of normality for the children who enjoyed warming up in front of a huge bonfire lit by the Carrdus grounds team.

Ed Way, school headmaster, said: “It’s been a challenging year for pupils across the country with school life disrupted for a number of months.

"To be able to offer the pupils a slice of normality and to enjoy the wonderful winter sunshine in their class bubbles, was a welcome addition to all of the hard work being produced in the classroom.

Mark Tetley, deputy head, said: “Our pupils always look forward to Bonfire Night, so we were thrilled to be able to put on a smaller but no less fun event for them to enjoy. Community spirit is at the heart of everything we do at Carrdus, and our parents were very happy to view our social media coverage on the day.”

Carrdus’s partner school Tudor Hall School also hosted a socially distanced firework display on Saturday November 7, exclusively for current pupils in their bubbles.
